Derby, grab your capes because Superhero Picnic in the Park is returning this summer! In celebration of Love Parks Week 2018 In Derby will be bringing back Superhero Picnic in the Park across Markeaton Park, Chaddesden Park and Darley Park this July and August.
Love Parks week, now in its twelfth year, is the annual celebration of Britain’s fantastic green spaces and people that bring them to life. In Derby wants everyone to get out and celebrate the wonderful green spaces in the city for Love Parks week.
In Derby’s Superhero Picnic in the Park events are designed to encourage families across the city to get dressed up and get down to their favourite park. This year there will be three Superhero Picnic in the Park events, in Markeaton Park on Tuesday 31 July, Chaddesden Park on Wednesday 1 August and Darley Park on Thursday 2 August.
Councillor Alan Grimadell, Cabinet Member for Leisure, Culture and Tourism said “We’re proud to be delivering these three free events this year for families. We believe events like Superhero Picnic in the Park are a great opportunity for people in Derby to enjoy our wonderful parks.”
All three events are completely free to attend, and activities will be running between 11am and 3pm.On the day families will be able to take part in whole host of activities, with many local businesses and charities in attendance.
Following on from their popularity at Derby Arboretum last year the Bumblebee Conservation Trust will be attending all three Superhero Picnic in the Park events. The team will be teaching kids all about bumblebees’ super powers and what makes the humble bumble a secret superhero, making bumblebee masks and giving kids the chance to have a go at bumblebee super power activities!
DerwentWISE will be joining in the fun for the first time this year at Darley Park, celebrating five years of DerwentWISE in their giant circus style big top. They’ll be making mini mosaics that children can take home, using clay to create ancient fossils, building a highland cow out of willow, and exploring nature in the park. DerwentWISE activities are themed around the Lower Derwent Valley landscape and are all free to take part in.
