From the comfort of your own home, you can now explore the Museum and Art Gallery in Derby, thanks to a virtual tour.
Created on a simple and accessible platform and made up of a series of 360oimages, Mi360 Tours have provided Derby Museums with an interactive virtual tour of their most popular museum site.
The addition of the tour has enabled staff at Derby Museums to share with their visitors the treasures that are housed within the museum walls, a unique way of exploring world class collections and local history, before they visit. The interactive element of the tour allows users to learn about the gems on display at the Museum and Art Gallery, including The Joseph Wright collection, notice nature feel joy gallery and the Secrets of the Mummies exhibition. The tour also encourages extended browsing time for website visitors as well as aiding visitors to make that decision to take the journey to visit the museum.
The platform is flexible and tours can be created for a range of venues, from hotels and conference centres to country estates and museums, a range of spaces can be captured and explored with Mi360 Virtual Tours tool.
Janine Derbyshire, Visitor Services Manager at Derby Museums said:
“We’re delighted that visitors can take a tour of the museum, before they actually arrive! The addition of the virtual tour has enabled us to inform many different audiences of the exhibitions and displays in the Museum and Art Gallery, which potentially also aids their visit if they have accessibility needs.”
John Shelton of Mi360 tours said:
“It’s been fantastic to work with Derby Museums, to pilot the virtual tour platform for a museum institute. From past projects, the addition of a tour for an organisation has resulted in generating more enquiries and business and I am confident that this will be the case for Derby Museums.”
From the project, Mi360 Tours have joined the Derby Museums Corporate Partnership scheme, which means benefitting from offers such as discount on room hire and corporate entertainment and curator talks and tours.
Donna Fox - Chief Executive – EMCCAN said:
"I found it extremely useful to take the 360° virtual tour of the Derby Museum - Inspired by Nature gallery. I was able to visualise the facilities before booking the venue for our Board Away Day. EMCCAN - East Midlands Caribbean Carnival Arts Network invited board directors from Leicester, Northampton, Derby, Luton and Nottingham for an inspiring session. The room was light and spacious room with suitable projection facilities and flexible layout for discussion, just as I expected. Looking at the room online helped me understand the layout and size. I was able to follow arrows through to other rooms in the Museum to see if it was accessible to the public and I got a good feel for the exhibitions on display. It saved me a trip to the venue, during a very busy day. We were all delighted to be forging links with the Museum and will definitely return."
