Family Review: Paradise Island Adventure Golf - Derby Days Out Blog

We recently visited the brand new attraction that has opened up in intu Derby – Paradise Island Adventure Golf! These are our thoughts:

Our Experience

The exciting theme starts right at the door and continues all the way through. We picked up our scorecard from the front desk on arrival and picked our golf balls from an array on enticing colours! We were given our clubs and because we were trying both courses (you can choose to do just one course or both) we were asked to choose either left to Shark Bay or right to Mermaid Rock.

We chose right, Mermaid Rock, and got straight into the game. So the idea is simple really, as you’d expect, you have to putt the golf ball in the hole and this is the same for every hole, 18 holes in total for each course. However, some of the holes are not as straight forward as this. There are obstacles to steer round, some have two steps, on some you have to target your ball through the middle of something and then putt it!

I have to say, I am not a fan of golf at all but this is ADVENTURE golf and I loved it! The music and great use of props create a really exciting atmosphere.

We scored our first course (dad won, Lola came second and I lost!! No surprise there!) But for the second course we decided to just have fun and not worry about the scoring. So you can do either.

It’s all good family fun and us adults as well as our 9 year old (you can read her thoughts below) absolutely loved it. As a family day out, it was good fun and nice to do something a bit different. With it being indoors, it’s a good all weather activity so you don’t need to worry about the rain spoiling your fun. We completed the two courses in about one hour but it could easily be combined with a trip around intu to make a full day of it.

Food and Drink

There were drinks and confectionary available to purchase from the front desk but if you get peckish for hot food there are loads of places to eat in intu. The attraction itself is situated just across from Pizza Express and Nando’s on the same level.

The Bits Only Mum Would Notice!

The toilets were spotlessly clean and the front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. There were plenty of fire exits and I felt safe. The holes were numbered so you can navigate around the course easily.

I would absolutely recommend Paradise Island Adventure Golf to other families who want to give something different a try.

Growing up in Skegness, I’m no stranger to crazy golf! But I was in for a surprise because this isn’t crazy golf, it’s Adventure Golf and is brilliant! All of the props around the courses as well as the music and sound effects make it all really exciting. You certainly forget you are inside intu shopping centre!

The difficulty varies from hole to hole but none were TOO tricky. We let our daughter have a few extra goes at the harder ones.

I would say that when we go again, we would just do one course. Purely because I think one is enough with a young one as there are 18 holes. Having said that, if just Natalie and I go back (on a rare date night!) or with a group of adults then we would do the two again.

All in all, I thought it was a great family activity (and not just because I won!) and I would recommend it to others. Personally, my favourite course was Shark Bay just because I preferred the holes on this course.

I tried my best to win a free game at the 19th hole but my hole in one skills must of dried up by then!

Lola (9 years old)

I didn’t really know what to expect because I have never done golfing before but my mum showed me some pictures before we went and it looked good.

It was good that we got to choose our own coloured balls and I was given a child’s sized club which was good because the adult one would have been too big for me and I wouldn’t have been able to beat my mum!

The courses were exciting because of all of the decoration that they have everywhere. I also liked the sound effects because they made it fun.

I would like to go back again and would like to try it with my friends next time. I think that children my age and younger will enjoy it and you don’t have to be good at golf before you play.

My favourite part was when I got a hole in one! I liked Shark Bay the best because I liked the big shark head coming out of the wall. My mum took a picture of me with my head inside it!
