FAMILY REVIEW: Santa's Grotto at intu Derby 2016 - Derby Days Out Blog

We visited Santa's Grotto at intu Derby recently. Here's our thoughts:

DDO Mum Natalie

"From the moment you step into the grotto reception area, you can't help but feel festive! The decor is great and the friendly staff (or should I say elves!) were on hand straight away to help with your booking.

We were sent to the grotto itself which is just beyond the reception area. The front of the grotto is full of giant playmobil figures, Christmas trees and lights. You can't miss it! Once inside we had two delightful elves treating us to Christmas songs, magic, jokes and festive fun!

They entertained us until our number was called. Then it was time to see the big man himself! Santa was as jolly as you'd imagine and friendly too. I particularly liked that he offered Lola to either sit on his knee or on a little stool beside him. (At 9 years old she's obviously 'way to cool' to sit on Santa's knee now!)

They had a lovely photo together and then she was shown various stocking of which she could select her playmobil present from - the choices were good!

After our Santa experience was over, we made our way back to reception and given some photo options. We opted for a snowflake shaped tree decoration which was £5. Last year we got a photo block and still got it out again this year so I'm sure we will be doing the same with this decoration. It's a lovely keepsake and as it could well be Lola's last visit to see Santa (I think she might be too old next year - sob!) I felt it was worth buying. The other options looked great too.

Would I recommend visiting Santa's grotto at intu Derby? Absolutely!"

"The grotto experience was a great family visit. Lola seemed to enjoy it and as a parent that's all you can hope for! The staff were great, they kept in character the whole time and seemed to be on the ball. The whole experience was very well organised which meant there was never much waiting around.

We made a bit of a day out of it by going to the food court for some lunch and did a spot of shopping too.

I recommend this experience to other families either in Derby or visiting."

"I enjoyed my visit to see Santa this year. The bit before seeing him was good because the elves were funny and I also like Skidda, the baby reindeer! I think children who are younger than me would enjoy it even more but I am glad that I went.

The toy I got is really cool, it's a playmobil dragon! Santa was nice and friendly and so were the other elves who showed us where to go and what to do. I really liked the snowflake decoration that mum got after, I have put it on my tree in my bedroom!

I think next year I'll be too old to visit Santa but I'm pleased that I got to see him for the last time at intu."
