Markeaton Park for Summer 2018! - Derby Days Out Blog
17th May 2018

Why Markeaton Park is the place to be this Summer!

Markeaton Park has something to offer the whole family, and this summer there will be shortage of things to do in the sunshine.

Mundy Play Centre will be in full swing this summer with plenty of activities for children of all ages. The play areas provide fun equipment for children up to twelve years old to enjoy, including the inclusive and accessible Adventure Galley pirate ship and a dedicated toddler area. Kids can jump in from the 26 May when the Mundy paddling pool opens, giving the chance for kids to make a splash and keep cool in the hot sunshine.

During the weekends and school holidays families can take advantage of the pay and play activities, take a canoe out on the mini lake, test your skills with a game of crazy golf or jump to your heart’s content on the bouncy castles. There are endless hours of fun at the Mundy Play Centre!

Keeping the kids active this summer won’t be hard at Markeaton Park. Children aged eight and over can play a round of golf on the 9-hole pitch and putt course, ideal for all the family, whether you’re a seasoned pro or trying golf for the first time. If a standard game of golf isn’t the one for you then why not give Footgolf a try! Footgolf is the latest craze that replaces a golf ball with a football, and a club with your foot. Try out this new sport on the 9 hold course at Markeaton Park during the school holidays.

Grab your racket and pretend you’re at Wimbledon in the Markeaton Park tennis courts. Markeaton Park has two tennis courts that are available for booking and tennis enthusiasts can use the courts every day, with free bookings available at certain times! Book the tennis courts at

Take a trip to the Craft Village to release your creative side this summer. Kids can get creative at Jumping clay, model making totally mess-free, for your ease. Or why not have a browse for some new furniture to lively up the house?

Once you’ve enjoyed the craft village, worn yourself out at Mundy play centre or need refreshing after a long game of tennis take a trip to The Orangery. The Grade II listed Orangery café overlooks Markeaton Park’s formal gardens, and provides a great spot for a cup of tea or an ice cream to refresh yourself.

There’ll be plenty of excitement in Markeaton Park Craft Village this summer as Derby LIVE’s Outdoor Theatre and Cinema season returns. Families can enjoy outdoor theatre favourites Oddsocks Productions’ Shakespeare double bill with The Tempest showing from 14 to 16 June and Romeo & Juliet showing from 24 to 26 July. Watch Shakespeare with a twist all in the beautiful setting of the craft village.

Get involved with a unique interactive experience with A Wild Walk: The Golden Thief of Markeaton Park as Babbling Vagabonds lead you on this outdoor theatrical walk around Markeaton. Children are bound to enjoy Squashbox’s Stones & Bones, and Curious Creatures from the 9 to 11 August. Stones & Bones is a chance to keep kids learning outside of school with an educational show all about archaeology and fossils, promising thrills and spills and plenty of laughs. Curious Creatures will teach kids about creatures of all shapes and sizes, featuring puppets, comedy, slapstick and live music, with amazing natural history facts. Book all of these shows online here.
