My journey from TA to MD - a new full time DDO'er - Derby Days Out Blog
20th January 2016

Well something scary, exciting, nerve wracking and thrilling happened on the 4th January. I quit my lovely job as a teaching assistant to work on our DerbyDaysOut website - full time!

I have a lot of staff meetings!

My blog will document my journey as I move from TA to MD! Although, I'm not sure if I'm entirely comfortable with the title of Managing Director - it feels like a lot of responsibility and way too grown up! But I guess I should get used to that!

So my first few weeks have been interesting to say the least. A few things I was worried about was:

  • Not having enough to do. I needn't of worried about that because there's loads to do!
  • Not knowing what to do! Not having a 'boss' to give me jobs made me feel a bit strange! I've had to write myself to do lists!
  • Doing a good job! With no line manager or colleagues, it's difficult to know if you're doing a good job or not! For now I'll just keep telling myself I am!
  • Working on the website - not cleaning the house! It's been sooo tempting to do housework whilst I've got the house to myself but I've tried to focus!
  • Feeling lonely. As ridiculous as it sounds, I've never worked from home before so I didn't know if I'd miss colleague interaction. Solution = my cats!

Jack didn't let me feel lonely. He also didn't let me do any work which was a bit of an issue!

It's been great to spend so much time looking at the website. There's so much more I want to do with it though and it's been difficult to know where to start really! I need to remember that I must walk before I can run and even though I'd love to buy out Ipro from their DCFC contract to rename my beloved stadium the 'DerbyDaysOut stadium''s just not on the cards yet! I'd really like to add a 'Food' section to the site which will list family friendly places to eat. I also want an 'Offers' section where you can see whether some of the attractions have any discounts. Any suggestions for the site are greatly appreciated so if there's something you'd like to see on here - please do get in touch - I'd love to hear from you.

  The DerbyDaysOut stadium??!! One day....maybe!!

Having meetings has been fun. A bit nerve wracking because it's felt like I'm showing someone my baby and asking for their opinion or approval of it! A strange feeling indeed. But so far all the feedback I have had has been really positive which is amazing! There are definitely big things to come from us and I have a great feeling about our future.

One thing that has really amazed me is just how fast the time seems to go! I have literally had to set a daily reminder on my phone to remember to pick Lola up from school!! I should set one to remind me to eat my lunch too because some days that doesn't happen til about 2:40pm!! I never EVER thought I'd be too busy to remember to eat! I had grand ideas of meeting friends for coffees, going to gym in the afternoon, running a few errands here and there!! Nope! Not the reality at all but I'm not complaining. It is nice to go the toilet or have a hot drink whenever you need it rather than having to wait until play time!!

 And chocolate of course!

So there you are, a little insight into my first few weeks of full time DDO'er! Please do add a comment below or on our Facebook page. I'd love to hear from you. Genuinely...the cats company is starting to wear a little thin!! Hehe!

Just one last thing - thank you so so much for using and for sharing us with family and friends. We designed the site for Derbyshire families like us, who want an easy way to entertain the kids. It's as simple as that really. Just one site that lists what's on locally. And if we make your life a little easier then I'm over the moon!
