Yesterday I tried womens walking football and I can honestly say it was a great experience!
I had no idea what I was letting myself in for. I didn't know anyone else who was doing it - I just heard about it through the Derbyshire FA and was intrigued. I like football but I'm not very good at playing it. The good news is...you don't even have to know how to kick a ball to join! The lovely organiser from Derbyshire FA, Lauren, was so patient, friendly and helpful! She got us used to handling the ball in some warm up activities before we went into a game.

It was such good fun, there was a lot of laughter going on! A few of the women were more competitive than others but it never lost the friendly vibe and atmosphere. We were all very encouraging of each other and it felt nice to be part of.
It's ideal if you're after some gentle exercise because you don't get hot and sweaty but your heart rate does increase slightly after the hour long session. It's enough to make you feel good about yourself without feeling ready to collapse!!

Unbelievably there was 12 of us on the session, which for the first week - is amazing! We were all different ages, shapes, fitness levels and abilities but we all got on so well and quickly became a team!
Afterwards we were treated to free tea and coffee and a mars bar! We got to sit and chat too which was lovely because we'd learnt each others name by this time.
The sessions are going to be on every Tuesday at Willows Sports Centre, Derby from 12pm-1pm. Next week (16th Feb) will be another free session and we are hoping that even more ladies come and give it go! After this it will be just £3 per session.
