This week Buxton Opera House hosts the touring production of 2:22 A Ghost Story, fresh from the West End. Starring Strictly alumni Kevin Clifton and TV star Stacey Dooley, this is a gripping show you will not want to miss. Audiences are kept on the edge of their seats as we follow the story of Jenny and Sam, new parents embarking on a home renovation together. They are joined one night by friend Lauren and her new partner Ben. As they enjoy dinner, Jen tells the story of how while Sam has recently been away, she and their daughter have been haunted every night, at 2:22.

 

As scenes change, audiences are kept on their toes and adrenaline builds as sound and lighting create a tense, eerie atmosphere. However, the tension is interspersed with comedy, particularly through the character Sam - here Clifton is able to seamlessly move from the serious, to at times, slapstick humour. Dooley puts on an outstanding performance as new mum Jenny, fierce and determined to find out who, or what, is contacting her at 2:22. Jen tries her best to show Sam, a man of science and facts, that what she is saying is true. Can she convince him that supernatural forces are at play in their home? 

 

The show’s homely set design provides a familiar setting for the audience to relate to, as do the characters. Two digital clocks provide a simple but effective timer that reminds the audience of the time slipping away until 2:22 arrives. This cast is completed by Shvorne Marks as the confident and brash Lauren, and Grant Kilburn as Ben, who gives a brilliant comedic performance to complement Clifton’s Sam.

 

2:22 is a must-watch, bringing the best of drama and comedy together in an unforgettable production with a fantastic cast. It is a gripping ghost story that will leave you on the edge of your seat! The show plays all week until Saturday 22nd November 2025.
