Babies Who Brunch - July's Top 3!
Welcome to our first collaboration with Days Out and what a first round up we have for you!
If you're not aware of our 'work' (and such hard work it is) we're Babies Who Brunch, two mums and two sidekick babies living the maternity leave dream. We'll tell you where is good to go, where the food is delicious, the latte is caffeinated and you don't have to change your baby balanced on a toilet seat with your leg jammed in a sink (yep, we've done that...so you don't have to!).
We're always honest, frequently flustered and usually covered in several bodily fluids.
This month we checked out several baby friendly places and our top three picks are:
Pink Pickle Kitchen - You would be forgiven for thinking you'd driven straight off the A50 in to the Garden of Eden at this cafe (in fact, it's Hilton not Heaven). It's quaint and beautiful. Think red and white gingham cloths thrown over tables in the garden whilst chickens wander around freely at your feet. The food is inspired by Persia and as such offers something different for the babies to try. They loved the delicately-spiced shakshuka with poached eggs. We enjoyed an Earl Grey tea served in a kitsch china teapot. The toilets are outside and there are no baby changing facilities BUT we don't care because it was just as cute and endearing as the rest of the cafe. It was like being in my grandma's potting shed. I wanted to suck a Werther's Original and learn to crotchet. The Pink Pickle
Windmill Farm - Derby's newest bistro / cafe located between Spondon and Ilkeston at you guessed it, the windmill. Inside is big and spacious but as it was such a nice day we lathered the boys in sunscreen and sat on the big veranda overlooking the Erewash countryside. There are clean high chairs and plenty of room for pushchairs. We ate a homemade bacon, mushroom and pepper frittata which came with a wonderful array of salads including minted potatoes, chickpeas, carrot and coleslaw. There's no children's menu at present but they offered to make us a smaller portion of items on the menu and kindly offered the babies some bread and butter with cheese. They loved this, along with trying the different salads on our plate. The staff were warm, friendly and incredibly helpful. A downside was that there are currently no baby change facilities but they did mention they are working on this. @thewindmillfarm.og
Piptree Cafe at Collyers Nursery - a firm favourite of ours and perfect on a hot summer's day due to the abundance of outdoor tables. Seeing as we were too late for the breakfast option (the scandi breakfast being one of my absolute fave things to munch on) we opted for Piptree Triple Club which hit the spot with just the right amount of chicken and bacon. The babies were delighted to have a babyccino each, which they absolutely devoured. They were served in the cutest little babyccino cups and sprinkled with a little chocolate. To eat, they shared a child's jacket potato and cheese, with a side of crunchy carrot and fresh cucumber. It was lovely to see this on the menu, so much better and healthier than the standard fried children's rubbish you find in so many places. It's one of our pet hates on a menu. The highchairs were clean and there was plenty of buggy manoeuvrability between tables. The disabled toilet was large with a good baby changing table. We especially liked the floor tiles. You've got to appreciate good tiling. Piptree Cafe
So there are your three for this month. If you have any suggestions for places to go please drop us a message on Facebook or Instagram. And if you visit any of our recommendations let us know what you think! We really value your feedback.
