Ignite Your Creativity and Step Into the Spotlight with LIVE WIRES
A brand-new creative programme is launching in Derby this year, designed to empower people through the transformative power of the performing arts. LIVE WIRES, developed by The Lost Boys, Derby LIVE and Ancestories, offers two exciting courses: one for 16–17-year-olds and one for adults aged 18+.
Whether you’re completely new to theatre or looking to build on existing skills, LIVE WIRES provides a welcoming, hands-on introduction to all aspects of performance and production. Participants will explore acting, directing, stage design, lighting, sound and more - guided by experienced professionals from the theatre industry.
Each weekly session includes practical training and personalised mentorship, supporting participants to grow creatively and technically, no matter their starting point.
For 16–17-year-olds, LIVE WIRES offers a dynamic and supportive environment to build confidence, learn new skills and connect with like-minded peers. The course culminates in a live outdoor production at Markeaton Park, offering young performers real-world theatre experience in a high-energy setting. Participants also gain valuable life skills such as communication, teamwork and leadership.
For adults aged 18+, the programme focuses on both creative exploration and technical skill-building. Whether you're interested in performing, designing or working behind the scenes, LIVE WIRES provides the tools and mentorship to develop your talents. The course ends with a live performance at a Derby venue, giving participants the opportunity to showcase their work in a professional space.
The first term starts on Thursday 11 September at Chapel Street Arts Centre.
