The Sorcerer’s Apprentice
The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is casting its spell over Buxton Opera House this week in a magical family production from Cahoots, co-produced with Buxton Opera House. Blending music, magic, and storytelling, this enchanting show captivates audiences from start to finish.
This fresh and original reimagining of the classic tale follows young Gunda, who accepts the Sorcerer’s invitation and embarks on a journey of self-discovery. Along the way, she learns to harness her powers, finds courage in the face of adversity, and discovers her true potential.
The production seamlessly combines Charles Way’s engaging script with a moving, folk-inspired score by Fiona O’Kane and Neve Hutchinson, alongside O’Kane’s beautiful and memorable songs. Under the expert direction of Paul Bosco McEneaney, Gunda’s story unfolds with warmth, wonder, and heart.
A particular highlight is the stunning puppetry, designed by Helen Foan and brought to life by a talented team of performers. Their work creates a world brimming with magic and imagination, leaving audiences of all ages spellbound. The production is further elevated by a superb cast whose strong performances and impressive vocals shine throughout. Gunda’s magical world is brought to life further by incredible set and costume design by Diana Ennis.
Filled with charm, creativity, and theatrical magic, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice is a delightful family adventure and a perfect introduction to live theatre for younger audiences.
The Sorcerer’s Apprentice runs at Buxton Opera House until Saturday 6 June 2026 and is a must-see for the whole family.
