How the 1st Duke Created Chatsworth Talks

Chatsworth, Bakewell, Derbyshire, DE45 1PP

Jan 24, 2025

From £13.00

Between 1687 and 1707 the 1st Duke of Devonshire set about transforming his ancestral seat into one of the finest Baroque palaces of the age. To do this, he employed some of the most important and famous craftsmen then working in England to create the opulent interiors you can still see at Chatsworth today.

Join Chatsworth’s Assistant Curator Katherine Hardwick-Kulpa for a talk exploring how the Duke built his palace and how it engaged with a wider network of taste centred on the court of William and Mary, whilst remaining the unique creation of its individual surroundings.
