80s Mix Tape takes you back to the era where leggings were a staple, and the music was epic.
Another line up of 80s superstars will be on hand to provide the nostalgic music of your teenage self would have been eagerly waiting to tape off the Sunday Top 40 for.
Bananarama will be making sure it won’t be a Cruel Summer with their appearance at 80s Mix Tape. Formed in the early 80s the original trio was listed in the Guinness World Records for achieving the highest number of chare entries by an all-female group. Their top ten hits include Really Saying Something, Shy Boy, Robert De Niro’s Waiting and Venus. Now made up of duo Sara Dallin and Keren Woodward they’re back to bring the hits of the 80s to Derby.
The Fizz will join the 80s Mix Tape line up !! Members of the original Eurovision winning group, Bucks Fizz, Cheryl Baker and Jay Aston, will now be joined by Matthew Pateman, former lead singer of Bad Boys Inc and Nikk Mager who appeared on Popstars: The Rivals.
Haircut 100 the band originally formed back in 1980 in Beckenham London. The trio of Nick Heyward, Les Nemes and Graham Jones released their album Pelican West and became an instant hit with four UK Top 10 singles Fantastic Day, Favourite Shirts (Boy Meets Girl) and Love Plus One. Over 40 years on the band have recently become a summer festival favourite and re-released a bonus version of the iconic Pelican West album.
Gary Davies has enjoyed an epic career in music for over 40 years. Having worked at both BBC Radio 1 and BBC Radio 2, Gary has established himself as the authority on 80s music. Asked to sit in for Sara Cox on BBC Radio 2’s Sounds of the 80s show, Gary now finds himself back in the DJ seat. Over his careers he helped discover and champion many acts offering mainstream support to U2, Chris Rea, Deacon Blue, Tears For Fears and Simple Minds. Gary Davies and his show has helped defined the sounds of the 80s.
Joining us once more is local Derby band Cassette Roulette - a 5-piece band made up of full-time professional musicians and two of the best female singers around. They’ve entertained crowds at hundreds of events across the UK, playing the perfect mix of old favourites and modern classics to keep the dance-floor full, all killer no filler!
