As part of ‘Dracula Returns To Derby’ join artist Nicki Dennett in re-imagining Dracula’s cloak, first worn on stage at The Grand Theatre, in Derby in May 1924.
The exterior of the cloak will be made from a series of carborundum prints created in the workshops, particularly focusing on a strong contrast of light and dark. At a later date these will be sewn together to create the exterior of Dracula’s cloak. The prints will be created over two sessions.
The lining of the cloak will be made as a collaborative piece by block printing onto a large piece of fabric. There will be the opportunity to print onto paper if participants wish some prints to take home.
About Nicki Dennett:
Derby based artist, Nicki Dennett, creates multi-layered, mixed media original prints with strong contrasts and colour. Her training as an illustrator, from the University of Derby, is apparent in the way in which one subject is used to create a series of images that often work together as a narrative. Nicki has a Masters degree, also from the University of Derby, in textiles. She often combines print and textiles, switching from fabric to paper incorporating stitch to create texture and pops of colour.
Presented as part of Dracula Returns To Derby, an AHRC-funded research project led by the University of Derby in partnership with Derby Museums, Derby Theatre, Bournemouth University and Sheffield Hallam University. A series of public workshops and events that connect the city with the world’s most famous vampire.
